About the Book
About the Book
Book slated to go into movie production late this fall and a 2010 release
In the book, Vidmar said he "weaves Vegas, the Vatican, the Spear of Destiny and the treasures of the knights Templar into the greatest heist in history." The story starts in Hibbing MN, and settles in both Reno and Las Vegas NV, and in Duluth MN.
A cool aspect of the book, said Vidmar, is that it highlights the premise that he has always lived by - good trumps over evil, and in the end love reigns supreme." He explained, "the language is tough and the violence, murder and potential graphic visuals are all a part of actual history from the Crucifixion the inquisition, the demise of the Knights Templar to the horror of Adolph Hitler...."
In the book Vidmar described feeling like he was in a trance when he was writing the story, knowing he was up against the devil and bad guys.
This book is the first of a trilogy. The storyline follows the life and trials of Vinnie Deotalevi.
"The book is being debated at several institutions," said Vidmar. "And I'm getting strong opinions on the short story as to whether it's fact or fiction."
The short story, which prefaces the story, focuses on Vidmar's own experience with evil as a teenager while living in Hibbing. “The truth being the reader should interpret the story as real entertaining or just an attempt to sell books,” he said, before adding, “I assure you the short story is real and that’s da’ name of that tune….”
Vidmar is almost finished with the screen play for the book, and expects it to be turned into a movie by late fall of this year. He said that Christopher Coppola the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola and brother of Nick Cage, will be the producer.
At first Vidmar said he was humbled by the movie deal and then elated. He also found himself in a quandary, he said.
“Money has never motivated me. It has always been the deal, the action, the challenge. So when the book started selling and my contacts come courtin’, I naturally had reservations,” said Vidmar.
“Would I have control over content? Would the script be true to the book? Would the producers be inclusive to the two sequels? Would Vinnie Deotalevi, my anti-hero be played by the right actor? Would this movie be made to go straight to video?”
Vidmar said if he was to give advice, he’d say take the money and run. But added that he also wants to be cautious and try to do the right thing.
“Vinnie is about good conquers evil and love reigns supreme… We must follow him through his life’s journey and the three books,” he said.
“The economy is also a factor, and my hopes and prayers is that this president’s stimulus package is a success and that it takes into account that the heartland of this country made it the greatest country on Earth, and the Mesabi Iron Range and Hibbing as the center are the salt of this country.”
Vidmar said he knows hard times are coming, and hopes elected officials will march down to St. Paul and take some of that money.
“Read my book and you will realize what Vinnie would do if he thought his and hers were in trouble,” said Vidmar.
Copies of the book are available for purchase at Howard Street Booksellers and on online retailers.
